BS 5839 compliant

Fire alarm systems that protect lives and property

Addressable and conventional fire alarm systems designed and installed to BS 5839 for all building types across South and West Wales. Annual maintenance and fire alarm certification.

Fire detection

Designed to detect early - not just react

A correctly designed fire alarm system gives people the maximum time to evacuate safely. The difference between an L1 (full coverage) and M (manual call points only) system can be critical - and the right choice depends on your building type, occupancy and risk.

Our engineers carry out a full fire risk assessment survey before specifying any system. We design to BS 5839-1 (commercial) or BS 5839-6 (domestic), ensuring you get the right level of protection for your premises and your responsibilities under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

  • Addressable and conventional panel systems
  • Smoke, heat and multi-sensor detectors
  • Manual call points and sounder circuits
  • BS 5839-1 and BS 5839-6 compliant design
  • Cause and effect programming for complex buildings
  • Commissioning certificate and as-built drawings provided

System types

The right system for your building

Addressable systems

Each device has a unique address - the panel identifies exactly which detector has activated and where. Ideal for larger commercial buildings, offices, schools and care homes.

Conventional systems

Detectors wired in zones - the panel indicates the zone of activation. Cost-effective for smaller premises such as shops, warehouses and small offices.

Domestic systems (BS 5839-6)

Grade D interlinked mains-powered smoke and heat alarms for residential properties, HMOs and rented accommodation - meeting current Building Regulations.

Monitoring & remote signalling

Link your fire alarm to Scutum, our NSI Gold approved 24/7 monitoring centre, or direct to the fire service. Automatic notification in the event of an activation, even when the building is unoccupied.

No cabling required

Wireless fire alarm systems

Wireless fire alarm systems deliver the same BS 5839 compliance and performance as a wired system - without the cable runs. Each detector, call point and sounder communicates with the panel by radio, making them ideal for buildings where cabling is impractical or would cause too much disruption.

We install fully addressable wireless systems compliant with BS 5839-1, used widely in listed buildings, heritage sites, retail units, schools and rented commercial premises. Devices are battery-powered with a long service life and the system is fully supervised, alerting you to any device that loses communication.

  • No cable runs - minimal disruption to your building
  • Ideal for listed buildings, heritage properties and retrofits
  • Fully addressable - identifies the exact device that has triggered
  • BS 5839-1 compliant design and installation
  • Supervised radio links - faults flagged automatically
  • Long battery life with low-battery alerts

Legal & compliance

Your responsibilities under fire safety law

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 places a duty on the "responsible person" of non-domestic premises to ensure adequate fire detection and warning measures are in place. A compliant system isn't optional - it's a legal requirement.

We install systems that satisfy both the current British Standard and the requirements of your local fire authority, and provide all the documentation you need for your fire safety file.

  • Written fire risk assessment recommendations
  • BS 5839-1 / BS 5839-6 commissioning certificate
  • As-installed drawings and zone chart
  • Logbook provided and maintained on service visits

FAQs

Common questions

All non-domestic premises must have adequate fire detection and warning under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. What "adequate" means depends on your building and risk - our engineers will advise on the appropriate system category during the survey.
BS 5839-1 recommends a minimum of two service visits per year for commercial systems - typically a full inspection and a six-monthly check. Domestic Grade D systems should be tested weekly by the occupant and serviced annually.
Addressable systems identify the exact device that has triggered - essential in large buildings where locating the source quickly is critical. Conventional systems show which zone has activated but not the individual device. Addressable costs more but offers significantly faster response.
Yes. We can survey your existing fire alarm, issue an inspection report detailing its current condition, and take over the maintenance contract. We work with most major panel manufacturers.
