BS 5979 Category II ARC

24/7 alarm monitoring - 365 days a year

Professional alarm receiving centre monitoring for intruder, fire and personal attack alarms. Instant response, keyholding options and police/fire notification.

How monitoring works

Someone is always watching

When your alarm activates, a signal is sent instantly to Scutum - our NSI Gold approved alarm receiving centre (ARC). Trained operators assess the signal within seconds and initiate your agreed response plan - whether that's calling your keyholders, contacting police, or dispatching a response officer.

Scutum holds NSI Gold approval - the highest ARC accreditation in the UK, recognised by police forces and insurers. All signals are logged with time stamps, providing a complete audit trail of every activation and response.

  • Scutum NSI Gold approved ARC
  • Dual-path signalling (broadband + mobile)
  • Response within seconds of activation
  • Keyholder contact cascade
  • Police and fire service notification
  • Full event log available on request

What we monitor

Intruder alarms

Confirmed or unconfirmed alarm signals. Police URN activation on confirmed signals, keyholder contact on unconfirmed.

Fire alarms

Immediate fire service notification on activation. Essential for unmanned or out-of-hours coverage of commercial premises.

Personal attack / duress

Silent personal attack signals activate an immediate police response without alerting an attacker that help is on the way.

Open/close reporting

Track when your premises opens and closes. Receive alerts if alarms are not set or unset at expected times.

FAQs

Common questions

Yes. To hold a police URN (Unique Reference Number) for automatic police response, your alarm must be connected to a BS 5979 Category II approved ARC. A standalone bell-only system will not qualify for police response under ACPO guidelines.
Scutum receives the signal and follows your agreed response plan. This typically involves: 1) Attempting to contact you or your keyholders, 2) If unable to reach anyone or the signal is confirmed, contacting police. You agree the response plan in advance so operators always know exactly what to do.
Dual-path means the alarm communicates via two independent routes - typically broadband and GSM mobile. If an intruder cuts your phone line or internet connection, the mobile path continues to send signals to the ARC. Required for Grade 3 and higher systems.
In most cases, yes - provided the existing system is of a suitable standard and has a compatible signalling device fitted. We'll assess your alarm and advise on what's needed to connect it to our ARC.
